Interest Based Electives

11 November 2022

The Interest Based Electives program is a creative, think outside the square, point of difference program run at Macquarie for students in Years 7 to 10.

Each year towards the end of Term 4, teachers offer students a rich array of options for them to choose from for the week-long program. Students nominate their preferred electives and are offered two of the four electives chosen. Like-minded children from different year groups are grouped vertically, enabling new friendships to be developed as common interests are pursued. The electives are placed into two lines and are run as double periods each day for four days, with displays and performance opportunities provided on the last day of the program. In addition, the afternoon sessions have students participating in a variety of House challenges.

The 2022 Interest Based Electives options are:

  • Preparation for Advanced Mathematics
  • Bracelet Making
  • Whodunnit? Crime Mystery
  • Mythbusters
  • Games Lounge
  • Weaving Wall Art
  • Card Games
