Actions Speak Loudest
At Macquarie we believe that actions speak loudest. We call it Faith in Action and it is the foundation of our school.
Recently our students put their Faith into Action by helping Year 12 to raise funds for their chosen charity, Orana Support Services. They did this by participating in a Crazy Hair and Funky Socks Day and giving a gold coin donation. Year 12 also took proceeds from a bake sale. Our school community raised considerable funds for this charity that provides interim housing and essential items for people who find themselves homeless.
Putting Faith into Action does not, however, need to be connected to a fundraiser. Students at Macquarie are encouraged to demonstrate their Faith in Action in everyday situations. For example, they could humbly help a peer with work that they are finding hard. They could forgive someone who has wronged them in some way, or stand up for someone else if they see an injustice. Students can walk away from gossip, be careful not to judge others or strike up a conversation with a student who may be alone. They can volunteer or consider something they can do to help someone else, without expecting anything in return. Later this term, Year 12 will promote a blanket, clothing and non-perishable food drive to donate to Orana Support Services.
We encourage our families to put their Faith into Action and support this worthy cause. James 2:14-17 says "14 What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if someone claims to have faith but has no deeds? Can such faith save them? 15 Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. 16 If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it? 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead."
