Pre-Kindergarten Learning
Term 2 has been a fun-filled educational journey of literacy, mathematics and social emotional learning for our youngest students this semester!
Pre-Kindergarten students have been developing their literacy awareness of beginning sounds a, m, s, t, i, f, d and r and have been able to blend sounds to make words.
They have developed their skills with syllable clapping, whilst identifying pictures, objects and items in the indoor/outdoor environment that start with beginning sounds to further develop their vocabulary. They have also engaged in discussions about shared stories that reflected topics including family, respect, kindness, feelings and sharing.
Mathematics concepts of number, geometry, measurement and patterns have been explored through whole class discussions, small group learning, working in teams and working individually. Students were able to expand on numeral recognition, rote counting, writing numbers, size and two-dimensional shape identification, length and height concepts and pattern awareness.
Social emotional learning has further encouraged discussion about empathy and emotion management including how our bodies feel, strong feelings and naming feelings. We have further been able to recognise the importance of belly breaths, being calm and communicating our feelings.
