Science and Engineering Challenge
Our students had a great time at the University of Newcastle’s Science and Engineering Challenge held at the Dubbo Showgrounds.
On Monday 4 March, a team of 24 Senior School students from Year 10 and the iStem class were split into eight teams, with students attempting challenges such as Flight, Confounding Communications, ElectraCITY, Fish Trap, Job Juggle, Helter Skelter Shelter and Wind Turbine.
Congratulations to the whole team on placing second. Not only did these students get to immerse themselves in Science and Engineering, they also gained a greater appreciation for the volunteers from Rotary and Science fields who ran the challenges and made the day possible. Everyone had a great time working together!
On Thursday 7 March, a team of Stage 3 Junior School students attended the challenge which was aimed at developing student understanding and interest in STEM.
Our Junior School students worked in small groups to complete a series of tasks such as building fish traps, wind turbines and buildings that could withstand earthquakes.
These challenges provided students with an opportunity to utilise our 4Rs especially their ability to be relational and reflective during their learning.
