Year 11 Agriculture
Throughout Term 3, our Year 11 Agriculture students are studying plant production.
Josh and Rochelle from Elders Dubbo visited Macquarie to provide a hands-on lesson about soil characteristics. The students studied soil structure and texture, macro and micro soil nutrients, fertilisers, slaking, dispersion and pH testing. They found it fascinating to see the links between Agriculture, Biology and Chemistry based on the interactions of soil structure and nutrient availability and how different soils are suited to different plant enterprises, based on their capacity.
The students also completed ribbon tests to estimate the concentration of clay in the soil and pH tests to identify if the soil had neutral, acidic or alkaline properties.
Thank you to Elders Dubbo and Miss Dimmock for this learning experience.
